The History of Drynachan
Bonnie Prince Charlie on the retreat from
Culloden called at Drynachan
on his way to Invergarry Castle.
Over the years Drynachan has had small
farming communities live on the shores of
Loch Oich,.
Past residents have included local stalkers,
game-keepers- even the odd rogue.
Partly constructed in the 17th century Drynachan is one of the oldest inhabited
dwellings in Lochaber, with its’ whitewashed stonewalls and cheerful yellow doors.
Drynachan (or Droighnichean - meaning place where the thorn trees grow) takes its’
name from the birch, larch and pine trees growing on the hillside behind the cottage
and with views of Loch Oich, the picturesque canvas is complete!
